Star Trek and Madness

   Posted by: Kertap   in Movies

I recently went a little mad. It was late at night and I had heard about a deal amazon were doing so I decided to get these.

Star Trek DVDs

A box set of all the Star Trek Movies and the 7 seasons of Star Trek: The Next Generation. A few hours later I was sort of regretting the purchase but after watching a good few of the movies and most of the first series I have to say I’m very happy. It was a little weird at first. It was of course filmed in the 80’s and it shows. All the women have 80’s hair, Wil Wheaton is very young, the CGI is a little shaky and since it was taken off the TV there is a fierce amount of interlacing which doesn’t work well with the Mac DVD player (something I should check to see is fixed in Leopard).

Over all though it’s very enjoyable. I’ve seen some of the episodes before and they’re just as good as I remember. Still if the 1st season is the weakest as is reported on Amazon then I’m looking forward to the rest of them.

I’m in Park City for the Sundance Film Festival. I just saw Quentin Tarantino walking down the street. This place rules.

Hitman

   Posted by: Kertap   in Movies

I had low expectations when I went to see Hitman because there is no such thing as an amazing movie that has a computer game as it’s source. All I wanted was to see Agent 47 running around doing cool shit. Which is exactly what I got.

This is not a movie for a typical movie-goer. This is a movie for the fans. It hits all the notes of the original source material. From something as simple as a bouncing coin to something so integral as Agent 47’s walk.

There is a plot. It’s purpose is to lead Agent 47 to his next cool action sequence.

There is a girl. Her purpose is to engage those people who don’t realize how lucky they are to be seeing agent 47 on the big screen.

There is a helicopter gun ship. It blows a hole in the steeple of a church that is the size of a car.

But the movie isn’t all bullets and blood spatter. It contains that which has been mandated since the year 1982. Cheese. There isn’t a whole lot, but any amount, especially that which involves agent 47 is unacceptable.

I am not sad I paid $10 to see this movie. There are many who will be. But they don’t know what it is to be a silent assassin.

Stealth

   Posted by: Kertap   in Movies

I finally saw Stealth. It’s a really bad movie and I feel I need to review the hour that I saw in an attempt to come to terms with loss of the hour I spent watching it. In that hour I got to see all sorts of cliche’s like the tech who doesn’t believe in the project getting replaced, hot shot pilots disobeying commands and falling in love with his wingwoman, hot shot pilots getting too close to bad guys and dying and my favorite the hot shot pilot who can pick up chicks even though he doesn’t speak their language, airplanes crashing into canyon walls.

One of the things that was definitely missing was action. It was like watching Gulf War 1. Good guys see bad guys, good guys fly over bad guys and drop bombs, bad guys die. They’re might have some anti aircraft fire but this was just a lame ass attempt to add action which just didn’t seem real. You’re not supposed to be able to shoot at a stealth fighter from the ground. It’s supposed to be about 10 miles in the sky. Not 100 foot from the ground.

There was also a pathetic body count. Summer blockbusters are supposed to have counts into the millions just look at independance day and the day after tomorrow. I counted 20. They kept on making it sound like more by saying “100 out of 100″ but it was only 20.

Ultraviolet

   Posted by: Kertap   in Movies

Kurt Wimmer should not be allowed near a camera/pen & paper/actor ever again. I had high hopes of this movie being at least as good as Equilibrium. It’s not. No where near as good.

It is full of boring dialogue, crappy action sequences and some of the worst CG since Han shot first. There are about 5 minutes of good action sequences, which for a 1 and half hour movie equals a lot of boredom.

There was one thing that really got to me though. There is a scene were Violet is surrounded by enemies all holding guns to her head at point blank range and the camera moves to behind one of the attackers. Then we here the sound of a blade cutting through stuff and all the attackers fall over minus there heads. I understand that this is would be a tough thing to show at a fast enough speed, but later when she happens upon another room full of enemies and she says you are all going to die. So obviously the camera cut’s away to an empty room, the door opens violet walks in and everybody is lying on the floor in the room behind her.

I didn’t enjoy this movie. I thought I was enjoying it but I was actualy just enjoying the sprite I was drinking. If I didn’t like this movie then you sure as hell won’t.

TOMMY CAN YOU HERE ME????!!!!

   Posted by: Kertap   in Movies

As I write this I am watching one of the craziest movies ever made. Tommy. I’ve seen it before of course and it’s a lot of fun to watch it again.

The thing I want to know is why didn’t someone tell me Roger Daltry was Tommy. Maybe they did and I forgot. Which would be understandable. I don’t thing I would’ve cared that much at the time anyway.

The really strange thing is that i bought the soundtrack for Tommy today.

Actually now that I hear Tommy singing properly I’m not surprised at all.

I just need to get Jesus Christ Superstar now and my collection of Rocking Musicals will be complete.
