Snow

   Posted by: Kertap   in Utah

I see it snowed in Ireland. If you can call it snow. It’s more like what the eskimos call anui. Which literally means light layer of snow which melts quickly in the morning because it’s spring. The snow we get here in Salt Lake is incredibly light and dry so that it doesn’t stick together and create Ice. This is called muruaneq which is eskimonese for snow that doesn’t hurt when you fall on it but takes about 10 minutes to move 6 ft’ because it’s up to your hips and you can forget about trying to put your ski’s back on that takes ages. Seriously. That’s what it means.

The Big Mistake

   Posted by: Kertap   in Music

I made a big mistake when I moved to America. I delibritly didn’t bring any of my music collection with. Oh what a fool I am. So i thought that I would make a new collection when I got here. Little did I know just how difficult this would be.

So up til now I’ve been trying to fill in the holes in my collection. I’ve got tool, system of a down, some metallica and a couple of the single tunes that I used to love to listen as i drove places.

What should I be listening to? If you have any suggestions for tracks or albums leave them in the comments.

TOMMY CAN YOU HERE ME????!!!!

   Posted by: Kertap   in Movies

As I write this I am watching one of the craziest movies ever made. Tommy. I’ve seen it before of course and it’s a lot of fun to watch it again.

The thing I want to know is why didn’t someone tell me Roger Daltry was Tommy. Maybe they did and I forgot. Which would be understandable. I don’t thing I would’ve cared that much at the time anyway.

The really strange thing is that i bought the soundtrack for Tommy today.

Actually now that I hear Tommy singing properly I’m not surprised at all.

I just need to get Jesus Christ Superstar now and my collection of Rocking Musicals will be complete.

I’m so happy

Posted by: Kertap   in Links and stuff

I absolutely loved Equilibrium. Sure some of it didn’t make sense to the Graphic Designer but movies always take liberties with stuff like that. Just look at Swordfish. Good hackers would never try and code something while drinking a whole bottle of wine. Never. I’m speaking from experience.

Anyway, despite it’s problems Equilibrium was a great movie that featured a great idea called the Gun Kata. A practitioner of the gun kata would be able to fire at an enemy while at the same avoiding fire himself by adopting the various stances.

And it’s coming back. Ultraviolet is by the same writer and director of Equilibrium and stars Milla Jovovich as the main character. This time around Gun Kata has been modified so that it has a softer style. This was done by bringing in a Wushu practitioner for fight choreography as opposed to a Karateka as in Equilibrium.

Another movie I’m looking forward to is V for Vendetta. The trailer for it looks amazing. And Nightwatch hasn’t come out over here yet so I get to see that in the Cinema too.

WooHoo.

While My Guitar Gently Weeps

While My Guitar Gently Weeps

This is one for every one who plays guitar, i.e. Mike, Mick, Peter and Dad.

I’ve heard one song on a ukelele before but this is amazing. Absolutely amazing.

Best of Bootie 2005 CD

Best of Bootie 2005 CD

Here’s one for Mick Higgins. He probably knows this already but any way. It turns out that when coldplay put together X+Y they were heavely influenced by kraftwerk.

he YELLOW singer confesses he is hooked on the legend’s unique melodies - and new track TALK even includes a Kraftwerk sample.

Some one had the idea of mixing the songs and that is what you get with track 10 Computer Talk on the CD that I’ve linked to above. This is more free music by the way.

Work Craziness

   Posted by: Kertap   in Utah

As I write this I am in a bed in a hotel in boston.

Can you believe. I certainly can’t.

I had a nice flight. It left early. If arrived early. And my bag was one of the first on the carousel.

I had no problems checking in.

The only problem with all this is that I’m not going to be able to see the Harlem Globetrotters on monday night like I had planned to.

Oh Well.

A concert download

Posted by: Kertap   in Links and stuff

The Concert

The above link is to site that has a concert for download. And who is the particular performer, why none other than Colin Meloy the frontman for the decemberists.

I haven’t listened to it yet and I can’t wait too. But first I have to listen to the other concert that is there if you follow that link. In this case it’s a girl name Laura Veirs. It’s just her, a guitar and a loop box which lets her record stuff while she’s playing and sing or play over it. It’s cool.

I heard about these by listening to a podcast from NPR called All Songs Considered. Check it out if you can. You can get it if you have ITunes. You can subscribe to it for free in the ITunes Music Store.

Update: This concert is amazing. Theres a song in it called The Shankhill Butchers it starts on 27:30. It’s fantastic.
