Skiiing
I wen’t skiing yesterday. Learning to ski is a lot easier that learning to snowboard. It was easier to control you speed and to stop. I also found that I fell over a lot less. One of the big problems I had with snowboarding was with getting on and off the chair lift. With snowboarding you take one foot out of the bindings to get on the chair lift and when you reach the top you need to balance with one foot outside the bindings. This resulted in me falling every time.
With skiing this isn’t a problem. It’s easy to get on and off. Getting on you just pretty much walk up to where the chair lift is and getting off consists of sliding down the ramp.
You don’t fall over as much on ski’s. But when you do it can hurt. There was one stage when I was going down one kind of steep bit that I couldn’t really stop. Or slow down. At the end of the hill when it started to level out I started to turn to my left to bleed off some of the speed and eventually stop. It all went pear shaped at that stage I kind of lost my balance and flew head first into the snow. It was like getting punched in the stomach by a very large piece of ground. I was winded and felt like getting sick. Skiers are nice though and lots of them asked me if I was okay. After that there was another kind of steep bit, but this part was no where as near as the previous bit and I got down it without a problem.
I did a few more runs after that. I fell over a few times and learned how to control my speed so I wouldn’t have the same brutal crash that I had earlier.
On the last run that we did it started to snow. This was great as I’ve always imagined it snowing when I went skiing. It also made the falls a little easier as the ground was more powdery and you didn’t really feel it.
It was a good experience and I’ll probably go skiing again before I go snowboarding.
